Austria Installing One Of World’s Most Energy Self-Sufficient Lift Yet
A new 8-seater chairlift due to open this winter in the SkiWelt region of Austria’s Tirol will have both the largest capacity of any chairlift yet built and be one of the most energy self-sufficient lift to date.
The new Eibergbahn eight-seat chairlift will be able to carry more than 4,500 skiers uphill per hour and more than 50% of its energy will be generated by solar panels on the lift station roof.
“We have been planning the new construction of the Eibergbahn for many years. But only now has Doppelmayr, the renowned cable car manufacturer, succeeded in achieving the required transport capacity and thus matching the performance of the previous parallel fixed-grip 4-seater cable cars. We are already very excited about the new technically innovative 8-seater chairlift,” said Andreas Haselsberger, Managing Director of Bergbahn Scheffau.
At a maximum of 4,570 skier per hour, the new lift will have the highest capacity of any chairlift in the world, SkiWelt say.
Seats will be heated but won’t have weather protection hoods in order to decrease weight and wind resistance for greater energy efficiency.
Eco-Friendly
The SkiWelt is committed to sustainability and environmental protection. All 82 lifts in the SkiWelt are powered 100% by eco-electricity and the solar lift in Brixen is even 100% solar-powered. The SkiWelt also offers you many fun and exciting experiences for the whole family, such as fun parks, fun slopes, ski movie routes, the Alpeniglu village and 3 toboggan runs. You can also discover Austria’s largest night skiing area on 10 kilometres of pistes.
