It was announced yesterday that summer skiing operations at Austria’s Kitzsteinhorn Glacier are set to begin on the 29th May.
In line with recent guidance from the Austrian authorities, the Restaurant Maisi Alm in Kaprun will open on May 15th. The mountain operations will then begin on May 29th, including summer skiing at the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier plateau (via the Gletscherjet 4 & Magnetköpfllift).
From 27 June, they are also hoping to open the 3K K-onnection, a new gondola for 19/20 that allows direct access between Kaprun, Maiskogel and Kitzsteinhorn – all the way up to the ‘TOP OF SALZBURG’ at 3029m. This will be the first time these areas have been so easily connected in summer.
Social distancing measures will be in place, though no specifics have been released as of yet.
However, Kitzsteinhorn have stated that:
“The health and safety of our guests and employees are always our top priority – which is why we have developed appropriate safety guideline for our lifts and our tourism offers.”
In recent days, Austria has announced the easing of lockdown measures after around seven weeks of strict rules. Schools, shops and businesses are gradually re-opening, though people are still required to maintain a one-metre distance in public, and are required to wear a face mask in public.
Austrian Tourism Minister Elisabeth Koestinger has also announced that with lockdown measures easing, restaurants in Austria will be allowed to reopen from May 15.
