Aldershot Snowsports for the Disabled has achieved the ‘Snowmark’ accreditation – a national award from Snowsport England awarded to high quality sport and community clubs who offer a safe, rewarding and fulfilling place for participants of all ages.
Becoming the first ever disabled snowsports club to achieve the Snowmark accreditation, Aldershot Snowsports for the Disabled (ASD) has achieved the standard which will help them further reach their goal of providing snowsports activities for all ages, standards and disabilities.
Snowmark is a Snowsport England’s snowsport specific strand of Sport England’s Clubmark accreditation. The Sport England Clubmark scheme is the only nationally recognised cross sport quality accreditation and was developed to enable people with an interest in sport to recognise those clubs which are committed to providing a quality experience.
“It is an absolute delight to be the first disability club to achieve Snowmark. This accreditation means that Aldershot Snowsports for the Disabled is recognised as a safe and rewarding place for disabled participants of all ages – as well as helping parents and carers know that they’re choosing a well run Club” said Sarah Baldwin from ASD. “We really appreciated Snowsport England’s support throughout our application and especially for their help with processing our checks”
Tim Fawke, Chief Executive of Snowsport England said, “Club development is integral to the success of snowsport, and it is fantastic news that Aldershot Snowsports for the Disabled has become the first ever disability club to achieve this accolade. I believe that initiatives that encourage clubs to develop skiers, snowboarders, coaches, volunteers and facilities can only be good for the long term prospects of snowsports in this country.”
Aldershot Snowsports for the Disabled provides opportunities for disabled people to experience skiing and snowboarding, mainly through its monthly sessions at the Aldershot dry ski slope, although it also provides trips throughout the year to enable disabled people to experience snowsports on real snow. The club also organises occasional socials, away trips to the indoor snow centres and is a fun club to be part of.
Snowsports clubs and facilities are able to work towards getting the Snowmark and Clubmark accreditations. For more information on Aldershot Snowsports for the Disabled visit www.asdaldershot.org
