A Metre Of Snow In The Alps Forecast In Next 72 Hours

Snow forecasters are expecting up to a metre of snow will fall on many resorts in the Western Alps over the next three days.

The entire alps, along with the Pyrenees, Dolomites and Balkans are all expected to receive several feet of snow by the end of Monday.

The cold weather is expected to continue for at least a week, with much more snow through the coming week.  Some of the most excited forecasts have predicted three metres of snowfall for Zermatt by January 7th.

The heavy snowfall, if it arrives as forecast, should transform conditions after the dry, warm December but could cause issues on ‘transfer day’ tomorrow and ironically given the lack of skiable off-piste over the past month, may cause avalanche dangers.

The snow should start falling at many resorts later today and grow in intensity from Saturday to Monday.
