The BRC Snow Club, a global community and Burning Man theme camp that famously brought a dry ski slope to the huge week-long desert festival in Nevada, has announced plans to go even bigger this year and join forces with an ‘Alien Ski Resort’ themed camp!
“The first year with the slope was a wild success, with hundreds of participants shredding our hill – many of whom actually brought their own equipment and gear with them to the middle of the desert! We learned valuable lessons about the build and construction of the slope, and we’re working on improvements and repairs for 2024!” a club spokesperson said.
Ahead of this year’s Burning Man festival the club is fundraising to add a jump and convert the lower ramp to a scaffolding structure rather than a solid wood ramp which will allow for faster setup, easier transport, and more flexibility. They also want to extend the run out, add a kicker and add lighting for nighttime sledding and shredding.
“We’re hopeful we can get to our minimum goal in time,” the club spokesperson said.
Along with Burning Man the club have been reassembling their portable slope, which uses the JF Dryski slope material, at other smaller festivals in the US West. Most recently at a local regional event called unSCruz.
The Burning Man Festival takes place in late summer each year in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada. , US. Established in 1986 with a focus on “community, art, self-expression, and self-reliance” it has grown to attract towards 100,000 participants. Usually, the festival goers encounter heat and dust but last year the festival made world headlines as torrential rain in the final days of the week resulted in a sea of mud leaving many campers stuck.
This year’s Burning Man will run from Sunday 25th August to Monday 2nd Sept 2024. Along with the bigger slope The BRC Snow Club will be partnering with another snow-themed camp this year that is an “alien ski resort”.
