An original Volkswagen Type 1 Beetle car that spent 50 years of the last 65 in a garage in Sweden, complete with 1950s ski rack and wooden skis, is expected to sell for £70,000 at auction in Paris in February.
The Beetle was originally built in March 1952 and shipped to Sweden where its original owner drove it for a decade or so clocking up 45,000 miles, after which he kept it in a garage for around 50 years. It was sold to its current owner in 2014.
Auctioneers RM Sotheby say it is one of the best preserved early Beetles still in existence and will be sold complete with the original owner’s 1950s ski rack and wooden skis.
