Great Britain’s number one Telemark skier, Jasmin Taylor, secured another podium place at the World Cup Sprint event in Aal, Norway last month.
The British team, sponsored by clothing brand Maier Sports, has struggled with conditions throughout the winter that has impacted some of the competitions with one World Cup race (Gerardmer, FRA) postponed in January due to lack of snow – although it took place in Les Contamines on February 2 and 3.

As the tour moved to Norway, conditions improved and a FIS race was held in Kvitfjell – famed for its 1994 Winter Olympic Downhill run and annual Alpine World Cup events and then onto Aal, close to the resort of Hemsedal, where Taylor picked up her second World Cup podium (3rd place) of the season.
“The lack of snow in France made for a tricky start to the season. I’ve had a few good results but struggled more to maintain form this season, and despite the difficulty in training at the start of the season, I don’t feel the issue is necessarily a physical one, said Taylor, adding, “I would like to extend my thanks to Maier Sports for their support again this winter, it is because of their support, and others like them, that we can continue do what we all do.”
Another GB Telemark skier that has been improving his ranking during the 2022-23 season, Timoté Gough (age 20), said: “The beginning of the season had its difficulties and results were not up to my expectations, though I’m really happy with my progress during training! I am ready to push and improve myself for the rest of the season and especially the Junior World Championship races which are coming up soon. A big thank you to Maier Sports for their help and support this season who help us to achieve our goals!”
The season is far from over, with a number of events taking place through March and into April in four different countries, including Switzerland, Austria, Germany and Slovenia.
