The 2023 ski season is underway at ski areas in Australia, Chile and New Zealand.
Mt Hutt in New Zealand, La Parva in Chile and three ski areas in Australia, including the largest Perisher and Mt Buller (pictured top) have begun operating their lifts.
The southern hemisphere’s ski season runs to late September or early October for most areas.
There are typical early season conditions with limited terrain and thin cover at most of the resorts that have opened so far.
Dozens more resorts in Argentina, Australia, Chile and New Zealand will open for their 2023 seasons over the coming month.
There are also still about 10 glacier ski areas open in the Alps and Scandinavia in Europe plus a handful still going after the huge snowfalls last winter in Western North America, including California’s Mammoth Mountain, which says it will stay open at least through July, pictured below this week.
