A ski area in New Zealand is still operating for ‘winter’ 2019 there., even though summertime (by the meteorological measure), begins in just over a week’s time.
Whakapapa ski area on Mt Ruapehu on New Zealand’s North Island is re-opening its Valley T Bar lift each weekend through November from 10am-2pm for skiing, boarding and tubing, so long as the weather is good.
And for this weekend, “The forecast looks amazing,” a resort spokesperson said, adding, “Don’t forget to check the snow report (yes, a snow report in November!)”
The forecast is indeed for a sunny weekend with temperatures around 12C on the upper mountain.
Current snow depths are no longer published but the snow was still 1.8 metres (six feet) deep at the start of the month.
