It’s 20 years since Austrian company Sunkid installed their first “passenger conveyor belt system” that is more commonly known as a “Magic Carpet” (although that is in fact another company’s patent name).

Conveyor lifts have revolutionised snowsports, particularly learning to ski or board, with what was the trickiest first step, riding the drag lift, now a thing of the past at most ski areas.

20 Years Of Conveyor LiftsThe company celebrated by installing its 3,000th conveyor lift system in Les Arcs, delivering it to the ESF Arc 1800 Ski School. The first Sunkid conveyor lift was developed by a working group at a leading Tirolean mountain lift and ski school enterprise, and has developed over the years into a success story that no one imagined. Over the years, lifts have been built up to 10 times longer than the original longest 39m size, with a 400m version available and installed in 60 countries, and the 3,000 lifts installed have a combined length of 156km.
