A number of ski areas on the Spanish side of the Pyrenees mountains have announced they’re ending their seasons early due to the coronavirus.
In a statement this morning the ski resorts run by the Aramón group announced their closure from March 14th due to the situation created by the coronavirus.
These are Cerler, Formigal-Panticosa and Valdelinares ski resorts.
The group said this move was a, “…responsible decision in line with health recommendations,” and added, “We want to thank all the skiers who have joined us this season and we regret the inconvenience this exceptional measure, which puts the health of customers, workers and general population above any other circumstances.”
The Aramón group appears to have made its own decision to close its resorts based on its interpretation of health advice, similar to the move by many resorts in Norway yesterday, rather than being told to close by government as has been the case for Italy and parts of Austria.
The Pyrenees mountain range contains around 60 ski areas shared by France, Andorra and Spain, so far it seems to be only a small proportion that have decided to close.
At time of writing there has been no indication from other ski areas in Spain, or ski areas in Andorra or the French Pyrenees, that they plan to end their seasons early too.
